Android Dominance By Google

Android is one of the most commonly used operating systems for mobiles and other smart devices like televisions or smart watches.

Android has now became a widely used dominant computing platform all over the world. Previously, Windows was also a part of the mobile market with their supporting OS, however, unable to beat Android, they moved their business further into launching the Surface Duo supported by the Android OS.


Adapting to the changes, is a vital component of any business and when it comes to the market dominance, Google has proved their coverage with intensity. As per the Mobile operating systems' market share report by Statista,

Android maintained its position as the leading mobile operating system worldwide in June 2021, controlling the mobile OS market with a close to 73% share. Google's Android and Apple's iOS jointly possess over 99% of the global market share.

A direct competitor to iPhone, Android has won the major market share and has maintained it's dominance for around more than 12 years.

Google Chromium Based Web Browsers

Chrome is one of the most commonly used web browsers which has been developed by Google using the open source codebase: Chromium. Despite the availability of other browsers, chrome stood in leading the usage statistics.

As of June 2021, Google Chrome accounted for about 69 percent of the global desktop internet browser market share.

As per the report by Statista, on Global market share held by leading desktop internet browsers from January 2015 to June 2021.


Starting from the year 2009 till the present 2021, there has been a huge rise in the browser market share, from around 3% to 69%.

Google Search Engine

Google dominates the internet search engine market due to its unique business model in providing a better user experience. All-in-one approach adopted by Google adds greater value to their usage statistics.

Ever since the introduction of Google Search in 1997, the worldwide market share of all search engines has been rather lopsided. Google has dominated the search engine market, maintaining an 92.47 percent market share as of June 2021

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) serves as a major input to the publishers and advertisers in reaching the common mass, facilitating better user experience. Despite the various threats of Ad Blocking softwares used, Google continues to amount a total of around 146.92 Billion USD in a year.

As of October 2020, Google was responsible for almost 90 percent of global desktop search traffic. The company holds a market share of around 90 percent in a wide range of digital markets, having little to no domestic competition in many of them.

A report by statista, on advertising revenue of Google from 2001 to 2020, suggests.


Android Dominance

Alongside the pertaining market shares in web browsers and search engines, Google has posed a dominant competition to it's mobile OS rivals.

With the pre-installed Android OS to mobile devices, Google enhances the usage of it's web browser and search engine. The voice activated search enables the mobile device to utilize the Google search engine, while fulfilling the user preferences.

We now estimate that Google's payments to AAPL to be the default search engine on iOS were ~$10B in FY 20, higher than our prior published model estimate of $8B.

Google has now been hit with a fine of €4.34 billion for Android antitrust in Europe. Adding to such, South Korea has also fined Google: 177 Million USD after the Fair Trade Commission confirms anti-fragmentation agreements (AFA) with manufacturers to prevent entry of other mobile OS.

Indian investigation arm Competition Commission of India (CCI) has undergone a two year investigation, questioning Google along with other companies as Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Paytm, Mozilla, Samsunng, Xiomi, Vivo Oppo and Karbonn.

Competing general search services cannot offset the competitive advantage that Google ensures for itself through pre-installation and thus, acting as an entry barrier for competitors.
